Finding the Right Mala for You
Posted on 16 November 2015
What are Malas
Malas are a new item to Pure Fitness Apparel and Pure Pilates, and we couldn't be more excited to carry them. But I'm sure everyone has a lot of questions...like what in the world are malas?!
Malas are, at the most basic level, a set of beads used in prayer or mediation. However, they have become more than that. They are frequently used in yoga practice and meditation to count breathing or mantras. Wearers also choose gemstones and malas that represent intentions the wearer is hoping to manifest in their own lives like positive energy or happiness.
Not quite into manifesting or meditating? That's ok! Our malas can be used for anything - meditation, yoga, manifesting positive vibes, or just for wearing because they are really pretty! All are equally valid reason!
All malas from Mala Collective have 108/72/54 beads. Why? Our friends at Mala Collective can explain the significance.
About Mala Collective
We order our mala beads from Mala Collective, a wonderful company out of Canada. All necklaces and bracelets are fairtrade products and handmade in Bali. The rudraksha seeds on each necklace are sustainably harvested.
Caring For Your Bracelets and Necklaces
To care for your malas, wash in warm water and soap. Mala Collective also suggests oiling seeds with coconut or sandalwood oil to preserve them.
Choosing Your Mala
So you've made it this far! Now it's time to choose the right mala for you!
There is no right or wrong way to choose your mala. As we are fond of saying at Pure Pilates, "you do you, boo!" Choose the necklace or bracelet that most interests you, matches your outfit, or somehow speaks to you. If you're interesting in manifesting a specific intention, choose a necklace or bracelet that furthers that goal.
The last thing to consider is sizing when purchasing a bracelet.
Small: 7 inches around
Med: 7.5 inches around
Large: 8 inches around
Extra Large: 8.5 inches around
Still not sure which size is right for your bracelet or which mala is right for you? Give us a call, send us an email, or come visit our studios, and we will be glad to talk it through with you. Happy shopping!
